Things I Learned at my Knitting Class Last Night

1. Trying to learn something while passing a kidney stone is challenging.

2. Right-handed people trying to teach left-handed me needlecraft simply doesn't work.

3. Telling me that you've never seen *anyone* do x, y, or z makes me feel like an alien and really pisses me off. Yes, I know. I'm left-handed. I do things backward and, usually, upside-down. It's not on purpose. However, if you can't *teach* a lefty, you should let people know. Yes, I know. My yarn tension is incredibly tight. I have this issue in all my needlework; Lorna and I both explained that. I have sore hands and stress to the nth degree. However, I find it hard to believe that no one on earth could *possibly* make such tight stitches as I do. On Saturn, all stitches are tight. (This is one of my hot buttons - so I won't blame the instructor for that. I get incredibly tired of hearing how everything I do/am/see/whatever is horked. *rolls eyes* Sometimes a gal just wants to be normal, hmm?)

4. Looking at my project and saying, "I have no idea what you're doing wrong - there's this neat book, maybe you should look at it" will not endear you to me. In fact, I will have thoughts like, "Hmm. I could have saved the gas and aggravation of driving here and just *purchased* the book." Also, when I try to buy said book at the store and am discouraged and directed to Amazon? It's confusing.

5. After three hours of frustration, when an instructor asks me, "Do you think you'll continue knitting?", years of training in etiquette will fade away and I'll be honest and say, "No. No, I don't think so" and leave the class a half hour early.

However, Lorna did beautifully and was incredibly patient, even with me rumbling softly under my breath. ;-)

    Ahh, yes the joys.

In my family, we actually have a code phrase for this:

"You can't possibly have knit/quilted/cross-stitched that, you've never taken a class."

Left-handed me doesn't learn well from others. If you want to learn to knit -- try Debbie Stoller's Stitch n Bitch, even thick headed me figured it out.

I'm left handed too and have both the problem of can't learn it from others, have had to do it from a book (or, strangely enough, from Nomi giving me directions via lj commentary) rather than show me. I also make wicked tight stitches.

Maybe this is a sign that we're evolved?
