*yawn*

Man, I'm wore out.

I have to get some stuff done today, but I'm going to try and take it easy.

My shoulder's let up, the neck hasn't yet, but that's progress.

We got our local food basket yesterday - beets, bibb lettuce, grapefruit, pears, oranges, strawberries, bananas, leeks, curly kale, brocolli sprouts, and spinach.

I have no idea what to do with the beets. Lorna found a beet/apple salad...

I like my beets boiled to softness and served with lots of butter. If they're super fresh, they're usually pretty sweet.

I like mine to dye wool in.

    Probably not a help.

Pickled beets are AWESOME: you cook 'em with teh skins on but cleaned, just in water, till they're soft, then plunk em in vinegar and pickling spices as you see fit, and then keep em in the fridge.

I don't know how long they last. In my house, they last approximately as long as there is no football on, no beer in the house, or no retreat into my customary sunny Balkan outlook on life. They go very well with things like pot roast.

Also, you can wrap 'em in foil and cook them in the campfire like baked potatoes and then eat them with butter and salt.

Also, you could make borscht, which is what Balkan heartbreak would taste like if made into a soup.

Also, you can dye Easter eggs, which is probably completely useless knowledge at this point.

Also, they make kick ass projectiles, should you happen to have an excess supply of CO2 on hand.

Although you could hurt someone. If you aim poorly you could beet them right to death.

I'm with P. Sliced and then boiled or sauteed until soft, with real butter. Yummmm.
