christ, I haven't been so steadily craptastic in months.

That does sound like it might be an ear infection, or at least exacerbated by one. Can one of your people look into your ear with a flashlight and see if it's really red? I know they wouldn't be able to see the inner ear, but if it's that bad, maybe the outer one is also showing signs of infection...
