Story songs
My biggest music kink is story songs.
Okay, so this isn't a surprise, huh? I love a good story - written or sung or spoken. There's something about the whole concept that does it for me. The Night Rider's Lament. El Paso. The Devil Went Down to Georgia. North to Alaska. The Ballad of the Green Berets. Big Bad John. Cowboy Bill. This Cowboy's Hat. Give me a beginning, a middle and and end with a key change, a nicely orchestrated bridge and a bit of twang and I'm *right* there.
And it doesn't have to be a long, drawn-out thing, either, but there's a skill there - to take 200 words, repeat a chorus, 3 1/2 minutes and tell a story with a background that you understand, that feels good to your soul and that you empathize with.
*grins*
Now, of course, I'm tempted to try one.
Later.
When I'm not swamped.

We don't need to write a story song...someone has already written the greatest one ever.
I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison.
So I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I got to the station in my pickup truck,
She got run over by a danged ol' train.
You just can't top that.

Hell, if you can keep yourself down to just 200 words of anything, I'll be very impressed. ;-)
