Poetry Thursday
The topic was "Things We Avoid" - me, being the Queen of Unable to Follow the Rules, can share this.
Cravings
I hunger for green apples
Sweet-tart and juicy
Splashing on my tongue
Like infant wine
Peel sharp against my teeth
Biting back.
Stir in the sunshine of honey
Kissed with amber
And clover and orange
Thick enough to be
Precious, necessary, encompassing
Viscous where it slides.
Coffee. Chocolate darker than murder.
Iced vodka screaming with lime.
Earth-drenched mushrooms and barley.
Strawberries bathing in cream.
Pineapple. Caramel. Salt.
Butter. Garlic. Bread.
You.
