So, the child started driving school yesterday

I just can't quite believe it.

I mean, I *can*, but I can't. It hasn't been that long. It can't have been.

She didn't want to go and there was drama and tears and I made her do it anyway because 1. it's an important life skill and 2. 'because I'm scared' is a bullshit excuse not to go and do.

She went. She made a friend and the highest score on the test. She was all smiles when she got home.

There's so much about this motherhood thing that you can mess up, so much where you sit and try to decide how and why and should I and did I do this wrong. When I get there and I can't decide what is best, I have to default to 'will this make her a more functional human being'.

That's my job. Not to be her friend. Not to make her happy. Not to make myself happy. My job is making her able to function without me. My job is to make myself obsolete.

She has her own checking account. She can cook. She can budget. She can clean house and sort laundry and follow directions. She can code html, work on Word and photoshop, quote the XFiles, read, sew, paint, do math, make informed decisions, wash herself, change brake pads, and train a dog. Soon she'll be able to drive.

Lord, I guess I'll have to teach her how to crochet and then my job'll be done...

Wow. And M will be there, too, one day. Oh, thank goodness it's a long way off yet... *sigh*

You know I'm watching and learning, right? ;-)

You sound just like my mom...and you know that's about the highest praise I can give you. She made me a functional human being and though it was painful sometimes while it was actually happening...looking back on it I think she did an amazing job.

You...are doing an amazing job. Your amazon baby is one of the neatest people I know. Period.

Oh, and teaching her to crochet does not mean you are done. She will always need you.

    *big tight hugs*

Now are you saying that I am obsolete?? Cause I sure don't feel that way. And you won't ever either. No matter how "growd" they get they are still your baby:)
    Love you Baby:D
