An Open Letter to My Girl
Seventeen, huh?
Lord. I remember looking at you for the first time and thinking that you were so much bigger than I thought you'd be, so much more solid.
Look at you now.
We've had a lot of adventures and I fully expect to have a million more, you and me. To this day there's nothing in Heaven and Earth that makes me happier than to know that you're here, to see your eyes, to know that you're becoming this magical, fascinating woman that I am so proud to know.
I know that the idea of growing up scares you, but you know what, honey? It scares everybody. You'll manage it, I have faith in you and no matter what, I'm here watching and praying and believing in you.
I can't tell you much I love you, because no writer has words that big, and no writer ever will. You're my girl, my amazon baby. If I accomplished nothing else ever, I had magic, because I got to be your momma.
Man, seventeen.
It's going to be a fun year, honey. I can feel it in my bones.

It has been an honor and a privilege to watch the amazon-baby grow up and be her "Aunt Barbara". I promised her I wouldn't go on and on about everything cute she's ever done in her life...and I won't. But I will say that I've learned so very much just from being around her and seeing the world through her eyes. I'm so proud to have her as a part of my family.
Oh...and from now on...you had her when you were 12. We're not old enough for her to be 17 any other way. *snort*
