Mother's Day, politics and the smell of breakfast

I'm taking advantage of the Mother's Day card and laying in the bed while the L. and the teenager cook. At least I assume that's what that smell is... ;-)

Hey, I'll take it where I can get it.

I'm not the world's biggest Mother's Day person - never have been. Don't get me wrong, I'll make phone calls and give hugs and let the family cook supper (which reminds me - I forgot to buy popcorn and canola oil at the store yesterday), but I'm not expecting flowers or presents. The hugs are enough.

I had planned out this long, emotional mother ramble, but when it got out it felt manipulative and contrived and like a writer trying to talk about her mother. Urk. So, no.

No long, contrived garbage.

I love her. She loves me. We talk on the phone a lot and manage to laugh our butts off often enough that most people think we're nuts. Go team. ;-)

*shakes pompoms*

I've been thinking a lot about politics lately - mainly about how tired they make me. I'm not just talking US politics or world politics. I'm talking those interpersonal politics. Office politics. Family politics. There's all these levels of rules and steps and expectations for how not to offend who and when to stand up to Person X and when to give into Person Y.

It's stunning.

Really, what I want to know is, where's the rulebook? How does everybody figure it out?

Or is it like motherhood, where you just fake it day after day and pray that nobody calls you on your utter lack of experience?

Snort. I think it's like work, or in your case motherhood. You fake it

Hey I managed to fake it for 30+ years and I'm sure that my Angel Baby thinks I am just the purrfect Moma. Well anyway, I think she is. Hugs and sugars to you my lovely girl, Moma
